OK Then

Today, I decided that I am out of my funk. Things are OK. Things are better than OK.

Reyna and I had lunch today at a neat place -- the Lemon Moon Cafe on Olympic. At the next table was design guru Christopher Lowell. You'll remember our chipper friend from his show on the Discovery Channel. Anyway, the Skirt Steak Salad at Lemon Moon is excellent. They also make a mean cappuccino.

Also on your list: try Joan's on Third. That's 3rd St., as in next to Beverly Center. I found a lot of neat delicacies and even picked up some finocchiona for the road. What you should try are just the cupcakes and the Danesi espresso. The whole place is very New York; think Bleeker Street or the Magnolia Bakery.

I'm going to do a run-through for a game show tomorrow. Should be interesting. All this while waiting for the suits to call.

To Commemorate 9/11

After more than 2 months, I finally have a thought to post on here. I can't promise that it is either sage or witty. I can only say that I finally felt some kind of spark to come back on here and write.

What that means, of course, is that the Bar exam and moving really took it out of me. The weeks (soon to be months) of unemployment are low for the morale and really put a damper on the idea of taking a nice vacation. It's hard to believe that I have been going nonstop for 7 years and now I feel like going some more. It's hard to unlearn old habits.

My big 9/11 thought is this: well, the terrorists sure messed this one up. They wanted to, uh, destroy New York or something, or really terrorize the American will, or frighten a really big nation by virtue of going through two of its cities. What ended up happening is that year after year now we have these elaborate ceremonies and memorial celebrations in honor of national bravery and heroism. Thanks, terrorists, for giving us yet another reason to unify and feel solidarity.

Now, you realize that my comments here are not motivated by that tear-in-the-eagle-eye indignance -- the kind of wry, bursting pride that Americans feel when they think about going to war and saving the world. What I'm talking about is logging on to MSN or Yahoo! and seeing the gazillion articles on 9/11 celebrations, the coverage about the various commemorate ceremonies that will take place, that puts 9/11 up there with Fourth of July and Christmas. What we have here is another holy day (as opposed to holiday, since that implies barbecuing and sleeping in). It's a holy day because Americans hold this date in high regard. In infamy.

In sum, it's just ironic that the whole operation was designed to chip away at American confidence and all it seemed to do was bolster it one more day a year, forever and permanently.

Oh shit, Cookie Monster is on Martha Stewart today. Gotta go.
